Are you planning a beach wedding? Perhaps you’re thinking of having tropical wedding decorations even if you’re not actually holding the ceremony on the beach! One thing is for sure you are going to have a great time planning your wedding.
There are just so many ideas and ways to incorporate tropical wedding decorations into your wedding. So let’s get started, here are some of the great ideas I have used or seen over the years.
Tropical Color Theme
Personally I just love color, especially vibrant clashing colors and there are so many hot color choices for a tropical wedding theme. Think about using hot pink, vibrant orange, sunny yellow, lime green, bright red and turquoise blue. If you’re not a bold color person then think about a pallet of white, cream, soft yellow and mint green to give you a fresh sea feel.
Tropical Flowers
When you start to plan your tropical wedding decorations you will want to incorporate some of the tropical flowers. For the bold colorful statement arrangements like archways and table centerpieces, you could think about incorporating any of the following:
- Anthuriums, they come in lots of vibrant colours including bright red, lime green, pink as well as white and deep red.
- Heliconia, the leaves of the heliconia flower are red and burnt orange and work really well for table centerpieces when teamed with the bright red anthurium.
- Ginger, a large pale or deep pink flower.
- Birds of Paradise, these beautiful flowers look like orange-feathered birds.
- Gloriosa, a delicate flower with vibrant pink petals edged with bright yellow.
- Cymbidium orchids come in lime green, pink, white, deep red and yellow. These also work well with any of the above.
- Phalaenopsis orchids, they are available in white and pink.
- Vanda orchids are a vibrant purple.
When working on tropical themed weddings I always use the wonderful tropical foliages such as monstera, palm, aspidistra and anthurium leaves.
For bouquets and buttonholes I would recommend using any of the following flowers depending on what type of shape bouquet you are looking for.
- Calla lilies, which are available in white, yellow, orange, pink and lime green. These flowers work well for handtied posies and shower bouquets. They can be used on their own or mixed with other flowers.
- Cymbidium or Phalaenopsis orchids work particularly well in shower bouquets.
- Anthuriums also work well in shower bouquets either on their own or mixed with other tropical flowers.
Orchid and calla lilies make perfect tropical buttonholes for the gents and ladies.
Alternative Centerpieces
If you don’t want to use tropical flowers for your centerpieces then you could think about creating your own centerpieces. Large cylinder vases or hurricane vases filled with sand, large candles and pretty seashells look really effective. You could also consider using floating candles in a shallow glass dish. You can even get floating candles in the shapes of orchids and seashells.
How about having an exotic glass bowl of arranged fruit on each of the tables? This would not only provide you with a colourful display but also an alternative dessert.
Invitations For a Tropical Themed Wedding
You are not going to be short on inspiration for your wedding invitations. There is plenty of choice for tropical themed weddings. The classic tropical wedding invitations feature palm tree, seashells and long stretches of beautiful beach.
If your looking for something a little different then there are the ‘message in a bottle’ invitations; these invites make a very novel alternative.
You could also think of using your warm tropical color theme as a base for the invitations. Alternatively you could use one of your flower choices as a motif like the orchid or gloriosa flower.
Favors Ideas Tropical Wedding Decorations
If you are planning on using lots of color and fun in with your theme then favors like the novel flip-flops coasters or candles, cocktail lip balm or beach themed cookies might just appeal to you.
If you’re going for a subtler elegant look then you might like the shell shaped candles, soaps and bottle stoppers.
Other accessories that you may want to think about as you plan your tropical wedding decorations could include lanterns; color coordinating paper lanterns can look really effective hanging from your venue ceiling. Glass lanterns also look really effective on the walkway up to the reception. You might even think about adding a splash of color by hanging decorative paper parasols from the walls and ceiling. This wedding theme really does give you plenty of options to think about.
