bauble place setting holder, perfect for christmas wedding decorationsIf you are planning to get married in December then you might just want to discover some of our great ideas for Christmas wedding decorations.

There is something truly magical about a Christmas wedding, for me it conjures up images of log fires, cold frosty lawns and magical twinkling lights. I think Christmas wedding decorations work particularly well in countries that have cold winter days.

Christmas is also a time that symbolises the whole family coming together for a celebration and what better way than with celebrating a wedding. If your family is based in different parts of the world, combining your wedding with a date near to Christmas may be a good idea. It means that the whole family can celebrate both events without having to make expensive travel costs twice.

I recently worked with a bride who was born in South Africa but living in the U.K. A Christmas wedding was a perfect way for her to celebrate Christmas with her whole family but also have them all present at her wedding at the beginning of January.

Color Themes

The most romantic Christmas wedding color is without a doubt the beautiful rich red. Brides often choose to team this with white or gold if they want a traditional Christmas color theme. Other colours that I have worked on are white and cool blue and just white. Both of these color combinations work well when there is snow on the ground.

Flowers Choices for Christmas Wedding Decorations

Brides who choose to have winter weddings often panic about the lack of availability of flowers. As I often say to our brides don’t panic because there are some really wonderful chooses of flowers available during the winter and Christmas period. These include: amaryllis, orchids, tulips, pussy willow, red ilex berries and mistletoe, as well as roses and gerberas that are available all the year round.

One important piece of advice would be to make sure you choose a florist that has experience of working over the Christmas holiday period. There is not a problem supplying fresh flowers for a wedding over the Christmas, it just takes a little more planning than normal. This is because of the wholesale markets shut for the holiday and you have to work around that.

Garlands and swags make stunning Christmas wedding decorations as these can be made from blue spruce, holly berries and ivy and decorated with flowers of the bride’s choice. These work particularly well when decorating the handrail of a staircase or on the mantelpiece of a fireplace.

Table centerpieces created around large chapel candles fit very well with a Christmas theme and also provide wonderful gifts for the guests to take away with them.

Accessories for Christmas Themed Weddings

One of our most popular requests for Christmas wedding decorations is for twinkling lights. We incorporate either candles or fairy lights into table centerpieces, flower trees, arches and pillars to create that beautiful romantic feel.

Feathers are also a popular choice and theses can be incorporated into everything from the invitation design, favors, place settings, seat plans, hair accessories and even the bouquets and table centerpieces.

One idea that I really like was a couple who had hand painted tree baubles with name cards on them as place settings. The guests took them home as a memento of the day and hung them on their Christmas tree at home.

Top Tips

If you are planning a wedding around Christmas my advice would be to plan everything earlier than you normally would. Christmas is a wonderful time of the year but December can get full of commitments and distractions so don’t leave anything to the last minute.

Also bare in mind that your venue may have it’s own Christmas decorations up. So make sure you find out what they are like and if you want them to stay up or not for your wedding.
