Wedding Decoration Ideas

Looking for inspiration?  Here are some of my favorite wedding decoration ideas that will help you plan the style of your day.

There are few things that are as romantic as candles at a wedding.  There is just something about the soft flickering light that creates the perfect atmosphere.

I find that they work especially well at the evening reception on the wedding venue tables.

You can use large ‘church’ candles as the basis of a wedding centerpiece.  Alternatively, you can have lots of smaller votive candles in decorative holders on the table.

Flowers

Flowers have traditionally been used to decorate weddings and with good reason!  They look spectacular, smell wonderful and add a touch of elegance to the occasion.

They are most often used to create a wonderful centerpiece for the reception tables but they can be used in many other creative ways.  Small bunches or single stem roses can be used to decorate pew ends in the church.  Rose petals can be sprinkled along the aisle, prior to the bride making her dramatic entrance. Freeze dried petals can be used as an alternative to confetti for after the ceremony.

Flowers can also be skilfully used as striking wedding cake decorations.  They can be used to make a plain white wedding cake look really spectacular.

Balloon Decorations

Wedding balloons continue to be a popular way of decorating venues.  If you think balloons are just for kids, think again! There are now some really talented companies out there that offer exceptional standards of service and the decorations are really out of this world.

One idea is to have a wedding arch made from balloons.  This can be positioned over the entrance as you walk into the wedding reception venue or over the table where the bride and groom sit down to enjoy their meal.

If you like DIY wedding decorations ideas, balloons can be one of the easiest ways of decorating your venue.  You simply need to purchase a kit that contains the balloons, helium and weights to hold the balloons in place.

Theme

Many brides that I speak to nowadays like to have a theme to their wedding.  This can give a coordinated look to the day and help you organise the decorations and accessories.  Popular choices include butterfly, flower and beach wedding themes.

The season of your wedding can be all the inspiration that you need for your theme.  Fall wedding themes are really popular and can incorporate fallen leaves, apples, pears and grapes.

But don’t feel that you have to think up exotic ideas for your theme.  Some of the most successful weddings that I have worked on have been based around a simple color theme. For instance you could choose to have a lilac color theme.  Not only does this define the color of the invitations and the bridesmaids’ dresses, you can also use it for your flowers, the table decorations and for decorating your reception venue.

Trends

There are often popular trends in wedding decoration ideas.  At the moment I speak to a lot of brides that are interested in vintage or retro decorations. These weddings have traditional ‘English country garden’ flowers such as roses, stocks and freesias.  The table settings are finished with vintage crockery and teapots.

Almost anything goes in decorating this style of wedding, even if it has been purchased from a thrift shop. Old bottles can be used for flowers instead of vases and birdcages can be used as an alternative way to decorate the tables.
