Green Wedding Decorations For a Spring Wedding

bride holding a green wedding bouquetAre you holding your big day in the Spring? Spring is a time for new life and new beginnings, so makes a wonderful time to embark on a new life with the one you love. What color best typifies spring than green? From newly sprouting grass to grapes gleaming on the vine, green wedding decorations evoke the sights of spring better than any other color. Here are some ideas for using green wedding decorations.

Centerpieces

Who says you have to use flowers for your centerpieces? There are so many fruits that are green, and that look gorgeous all on their own. Green apples, limes, grapes, sliced kiwi…the list goes on.

You can use only green fruits, or combine them with other fruits to compliment the color.

For example, a tall pillar vase lines on both sides with slices of limes and lemons looks elegant, and smells wonderful. Or a pretty glass bowl piled high with shiny green apples and decorated with little silk butterflies or honeybees.

I’m really looking forward to making Laura’s spring centerpieces that combine fruit and flowers. She’s having our large martini vases lined with slices of fresh limes. On the top of the vase is a beautiful arrangement of flower in cream and lime green including green shamrock chrysanthemums, cream lilies and roses. They are going to look fabulous. Lime green and ivory or cream provides a lovely fresh crisp color theme.

Plants

Flowers are pretty, but so are plants…and you can use them all over the place as your main green wedding decorations. On your tables, why not place a small glass vase holding a few stalks of bamboo? Or, use small bonsai trees in interesting Asian-style containers. Set elegant potted shrubs next to the head table, and use them on either side of the entrance to the ceremony and reception areas.

I often place two bay trees outside the entrance to a church or hotel decorated with coordinating satin ribbon bows.

And don’t forget about herbs! Herbs in pretty decorative pots not only look fresh and outdoorsy, they give off a welcoming, tantalizing scent as well. Dried herbs and flower petals can be sprinkled on the table. Sprigs of rosemary tied with a beautiful green satin ribbon look wonderful when placed on the folded table napkins.

Butterflies, dragonflies and other motifs that have shades of green in them look really effective when placed in planted pots or hovering over fruit centerpieces.

I love this hovering green butterfly in this bridal bouquet. The vibrant lime green works really well with the other strong colors.

Butterflies have become a really popular wedding accesory as they can be purchased in any color to fit with your decoration color theme. I think they are really popular because they look so natural hovering over flowers, plants or fruits.

If you’re going for a very natural country look like one of our recent brides but can’t hold your wedding outside, why not think about decorating the chairs with sage green chair bows.

Sarah coordinated this with bunches of vibrant green chair bow for green wedding decorationslavender tied with a beautiful sage ribbon bow and used them as place setting. This all added to that beautiful soft natural outdoor look.

In this photo you can see how this chair has been decorated with a vibrant green chair bow. This is an excellent way of introducing your color, without it overpowering the venue decorations.

For Spring weddings, choose green wedding decorations in pastel or light, soft shades and tones.

Dark greens, like hunter green, are more fall and winter colors. Combine the green with some touches of light blue or violet for a cool, calm look, or a bit of soft yellows, creams or oranges to add some pizazz.
