I’ve recently had a lot of brides coming to me looking for blue wedding decorations. The shades of blue that their bridesmaids dresses are in, range from turquoise, teal (a green/blue) and navy blue.
Color Combinations
Lets start by looking for a color to combine for the different shades of blue. You can go two ways, for a soft elegant look white or cream works really well with all these shades of blue. Soft baby pink and lemon yellow also works well with turquoise and navy.
If you are looking for a stronger vibrant color hot cerise pink, lime green and bright yellow work very well with teal and navy blue.
So you really need to decide if you’re looking for a soft elegant look or a more vibrant warm look.
Blue Wedding Centerpieces
I often use blue accessories when I’m working on centrepieces based around a blue color theme. Although there are a few blue flowers available including hydrangeas, hyacinths and delphiniums they are not always in season or the correct shade of blue.
By using accessories like feathers, colored stones in the bottom of vases, skeleton leaves, beads etc you can match up the correct shade of blue.
Then chose the color combination to go with your blue wedding decorations. For example if you decide on blue and white then you can use white flowers with the blue accessories. Here you can see how we have done exactly that for Alison’s wedding. Her bridesmaids were in the shade of blue of the stones in the bottom of the vases you can see here. Then we placed tall calla lilies as her bridesmaids held in their bouquets and Phalaenopsis orchids that we used in the brides bouquet. So everything came together in these stunning tall centerpieces.
Blue Wedding Bouquets
The wonderful bouquet that you can see here is one I made out of the large blue hydrangea flower heads which makes a beautiful bridal bouquet. You can also see here how I have used cream roses with a blue color of delphinium flowers to bring the two colours together.
If your bridesmaids are going to be wearing blue then I would suggest using your coordinating color for their bouquets as blue flowers on a blue dress would just become lost in the photographs. We recently arranged Lianne’s bridesmaid’s flowers with ivory roses and delicate blue thistle. The ivory roses in the bouquets ensured that the bouquets stood out against their navy blue dresses. The result was fabulous.
Blue Wedding Decorations for Your Venue
You might want to think about using blue sashes or bows on your chair covers to fit in with your color theme. You could create balloon arches in blue at the entrance to your reception or ceremony.
There are many different shades of blue favors and invitations when it comes to tying your whole theme together. You can even get blue colored candy to use as favors or in a candy bar.
If you’re not able to source blue linen napkins for your tables, how about tying them with coordinating blue satin ribbons?
The possibilities are endless as blue wedding decorations have become a very popular choice over recent years. This means there are plenty of ideas and merchandise available to you.
