Over the last couple of years I have seen a dramatic increase in black wedding decorations. It can come about by a simple choice of bridesmaid’s dresses or by a romantic desire to capture the essence of old fashioned black and white movies. Whatever it was that made black your colour theme, the good news is there are plenty of ideas available now on how to incorporate black into a wedding.
By choosing black wedding decorations, one thing to be aware of is it may cause a few raised eyebrows. This will perhaps not be among your contemporaries, but be warned grandparents are often keen to express their horror at the suggestion of black as a wedding colour theme. But like many of our brides, this may not bother you in the slightest as it’s very fashionable to use black wedding decorations.
Here are just a few of the ways I’ve helped other brides incorporate black into their wedding theme.
The Out and Out Winner for the Black Colour Theme
It’s the little black dress. It has become a really popular choice for bridesmaids dresses, especially knee length ‘tea dress’ style bridesmaids dresses. The bride is often really happy the bridesmaids will have other occasions to wear their dresses again. It is also seen as a flattering colour for all different shaped and sized women.
Coordinating Colour Themes
One of the most popular colours to coordinate with black is white. It’s often based around the theme of old black and white movies, or photographs, and the desire to create a nostalgic romantic theme.
Another very popular combination is vivid red, which looks very powerful and strong when placed with black. For a slightly softer pairing people have used pink and black.
Black Wedding Centerpieces
One of my favorite black and white centerpieces that springs to mind is a tall centrepiece we created for a bride with a black and white color theme. We used tall twisted black lily vases with a ball of white lilies on the top and it looked stunning. The whole arrangement was placed on a circular mirror surrounded by black and white tea light candles in glass holders.
As true black flowers are not available, we always suggest to people looking to incorporate black into their table centrepieces to do it through the accessories. This can be anything from using black vases, butterflies, candelabras, hanging beads, candles etc all these things are easily available in black.
Wedding Bouquets
If your bridesmaids are going to be wearing black dresses, white handtied posies can look stunning and simplistic. If you are having a color like red or pink as your bridal bouquet, these colours will also work well against a powerful color like black when it comes to the bridesmaid’s flowers.
Black Venue Decorations
The availability of black wedding decorations is so much larger now. You can choose from all sorts of wedding venue accessories to coordinate with your black wedding theme. These include black tablecloths or table runners. You can use black chair covers or black bows on your white or red chair covers. On the tables choose black favor boxes or black and white themed candy …the choice is endless.
The only question is how dominant do you want the colour black to be? Once you have decided that, then you can confidently choose all of your venue accessories.
