I love color, so when it came to choosing the wedding color for my own wedding, it was quite a difficult job as I had so many ideas. Traditional white can look stunning but I also like vibrant colors such as these calla lily table centerpieces that I created for bride in Warwickshire (pictured above).
So here is my guide on how to make a start on choosing your wedding color.
Let’s Get Started
There are no hard and fast rules here, quite the contrary, you can do what you like when you like but I’ve put this guide together to help you.
You’ve set the date, chosen the venue, got your eye on a wedding dress, even if you haven’t made your final choice and now comes choosing the bridesmaids dresses. This is where your wedding color will really start being an important part of your wedding preparations.
The Bridesmaids Dresses
The color of the bridesmaids’ dresses should be based around what suits them, their skin, hair color etc. There is nothing to say that you have to have them all in the same color, I really like seeing bridesmaids in different styles of dresses and sometimes-different colors. The only thing I would say is link them in some way either by a colored sash, hair accessory, shoes etc.
The color of your bridesmaid’s dresses will have an impact on the color of their flowers. It may also be the color that you choose to have on your invitations, favor detailing and venue decorations. So quite a lot of time and consideration can go into the color scheme of these dresses.

I often use the bridesmaids’ dress color as a starting point for the flower choices when discussing the wedding flowers.
Purple bridesmaids dresses have recently been very popular here in the U.K.
I have often featured beautiful ivory roses, ranunculus, and then put hints of purple into a mixed hand tied posy using flowers like anenomes or freesias.
The ivory roses and ranunculus enables the flowers to stand out against the purple dresses but the purple anemones or freesias link the color through into the bouquets.
You can see here in this photo on the left how I have used the ivory roses with the lilac freesias to make these beautiful hand tied posy bouquets. This sytle of bouquet is very popular with the bridesmaids as it is so easy to hold.
Staying Neutral
If your bridesmaids suit a neutral color such as taupe or antique sage green (as my best friend wore) then you can have a free rein to choose any color scheme.
If this is the case then you may choose as I did to use the color scheme of your wedding flowers as the whole wedding color. As I had a large pallet of colors when it came to my wedding flowers I picked out two of the colors. These then featured on the invitations, napkin/table details, seating plan, chair cover sashes, cake and venue decorations.
Linking and Theming Your Wedding Through Color

A wedding color is a wonderful way to link all of the different wedding accessories together.
If you haven’t got a strong wedding theme such as a tropical, Christmas, western, vintage etc then your choice of color can be used as your theme.
In these photo’s you can see how the purple color theme has been used in the chair sashes, favors, place settings and flowers.
I placed these beautiful tall table centrepieces on to the tables which really completed the room decor.
Color is a really great way to personalise and make your own statement on your wedding day.
You can go with current trends or fashions or you can dare to be different and go for a real statement through your choice of color. If you combine unique colors together, you can create an original color theme. For example, hot pink and lime green work well together. Deep purple and rich red can look luxurious.
Whatever color(s) you decide on, here are some of our most popular wedding color themes.
