Are you planning a church wedding? Confused about who is responsible for the church wedding decorations? Or perhaps you just can’t decide on how many decorations you need in the church.
Don’t worry help is on hand. I have spoken to many brides about all of these dilemmas. You just need to break it down and think carefully about how you want the church to look and how much of a budget you’ve got.
There Are Plenty of Ways To Decorate Your Church
For those of you planning a church wedding with a substantial budget you can think about the following:
Decorating arches either outside or inside the church and on some occasions we have done both. Flower arches are a wonderful way to greet your guests and set the scene for your wedding.
You can also use bay trees or flower trees outside the church entrance if you don’t have an archway that’s suitable to decorate.
Church Wedding Decorations on a Budget
We often advise brides to place a pedestal arrangement in the entrance of the church and another at the altar so that your eye is drawn down the aisle. If you haven’t got a massive budget then two pedestal arrangements are great value. They set the scene, give your guests something beautiful to look at but don’t cost the earth.
If you have deep windowsills in your church you might want to think about using a couple of your table centrepieces on the windowsills of the church during the ceremony. These can then be moved by one of the wedding party and taken to the reception venue. For churches with shallow windowsills we often recommend decorating them with chunky church candles scattered with colour coordinating rose petals.
Decorating Pew Ends
One great debate is often whether or not to decorate the pew ends. If you have the budget then fine go ahead and do this as it can add that magical look to the church. But if your budget is stretched think about just decorating the pew ends at the start and end of the aisle to save on cost.
Church Etiquette
Some of the churches we supply wedding decorations for request that a small amount of the flowers are left for the congregation to enjoy. We often suggest leaving arrangements on the altar.
A definite rule in any church is not to make any perminant damaging fixings; this includes nails, glue or very sticky adhesive tape. If you want to create an archway around the outside of the church entrance but there are no suitable ways to fix it, then I suggest using a freestanding framework. Like wise some pews may not have an obvious way of attaching the pew end decorations. You can buy commercially designed attachments that don’t damage the pews to get around this.
You will also need to liase with the church to find out if there is a group of local churchgoers that supply the church wedding decorations. Many communities have locals who like to supply flower decorations for the church and will give you an indication of cost. They should also ask you for your color theme so that they can coordinate everything for you.
