When you are planning a wedding, you want every little detail to be perfect. And it becomes very easy to start obsessing about every little detail…so much so that it soon becomes almost impossible to make a decision! Your wedding centerpiece decorations will really influence the overall look of your reception, so it is something you do want to spend some time on. But never fear…here are some things to make your decision much, much easier!
Tall Or Low?
Keeping your wedding centerpiece decorations relatively low on the table will allow everyone to talk over the top of them. However that doen’t mean you can’t have tall table centerpieces as long as they don’t obsure the view accross the table. You need to make sure that people can still see and talk to each other accross the table.
I produce both low and tall floral table centerpieces all the time. Couples often choose tall centerpieces to add real impact and style to the wedding reception room. If your reception room has a tall ceiling then tall table centerpieces often work best.
Low centerpieces can still have WOW factor and impact, you just need to think of creating something really interesting and original.
You wedding centerpiece decorations should be in proportion to the size and shape of your table. If your tables are round, then choose rounded shapes. If you have longer, rectangular tables, then choose rectangular shapes, or group an odd number or items on the table.
Flower Centerpieces
Flowers are a typical choice for wedding centerpiece decorations, but you can jazz it up a little with your choice of arrangement and vases. For a spring wedding, choose an arrangement that looks like a spring garden. Not all of your centerpieces have to be exactly the same either. Keep your colors consistent, and use different sizes and shapes of vase to hold them. or, hold your flowers in interesting jugs, pitchers, stemware, even woven baskets!
I love the elegant shape of this vase you can see in the photo it looks so effective with these beautiful silk roses.
Make sure your florist has a clear ideas about the style and look of your wedding. You may also want to make sure that you choose a florist that can interpret your ideas and come up with original wedding centerpiece decorations. Some of our brides choose centerpieces from my portfolio that we have created for other brides. However some people want totally unique designs and they trust us to create especially for them. I’m fortunate that my arts back ground comes in very useful, as I love creating new and original centerpieces for couples.
Candles
Candles are another elegant choice for wedding centerpiece decorations, and there are many ways to display them. Get a piece of mirrored tile, and group three candles on top to magnify the glow. Place floating candles in a shallow glass bowl full of colored water, and add a few flower petals. You can get floating candles in a variety of shapes…try butterfly candles, or hearts, or candles that look like flowers.
The vase you can see in this photo is perfect for floating candles in. I love the simple way shells have been used in the bottom of the vase for a beach themed wedding centerpiece.
You can hire candelabras from rental companies that you can decorate with flowers, butterflies or baubles for a Christmas wedding. Candelabras and candles are so popular at any time of the year as they give a sense of romance and look fabulous in the evening when the lights are turned down low.
Seasonal Centerpieces
If you are really stuck, just remember that for wedding centerpiece decorations, you can use anything as long as you keep the colors consistent, and your overall style consistent. Little ice sculptures, for example, would look lovely for a winter wedding, but would seem out of place in the middle of July!
Think of your season, and choose things that are in keeping with the colors and styles of that season. Fruit, dried herbs, nuts, framed photos…anything can work. If it makes you happy to look at it, chances are it will make your guests happy too!
