DIY

heart petals for diy wedding decorationsDIY wedding decorations are a wonderful way to personalise your wedding. I am a massive fan of diy decorations, this might have something to do with my creative background. But you don’t have to be highly creative or talented to achieve great results with diy wedding decoration projects.

There are so many high quality products on the market now that show you step by step how to produce all sorts of wedding decorations from favors, flowers, invitations, table centrepieces and so much more.

I am planning on bringing out a series of step-by-step photo and video tutorials on all kinds of diy wedding decorations. So there will plenty of inspiration for you to find out about. Just go to the projects and tutorial part of our site or watch out for features on diy in my blog.

Organisation Is King

Without wanting to sound like a broken record, as I say this time and time again, but it is so crucial, organisation is essential to the success of diy wedding decorations. It’s boring and probably shows up my background in teaching but believe me it’s key.

So many of your wedding decorations can be made in advance. You can make your invitations weeks even months before they need to be sent out. You can make your perfect little favors and store them away well before the wedding date.

Advanced planning organisation and having a trial run are all key tips that will mean you have so much fun making your diy decorations, stay relaxed and enjoy the process.

Last Minute Wedding Decorations

The only diy projects that you can’t prepare in advance are fresh flower decorations and fresh food. But that doesn’t stop you having a trial run beforehand to make sure it’s all going to go to plan.

Check out my book on diy wedding flowers, which features very easy step-by-step wedding flower projects. It covers everything from bouquets, table centerpieces to buttonholes. It’s well worth a look if you’re thinking of making your own wedding flowers.

No Surprise

It might not be any surprise to you that I made a lot of my own wedding decorations, you just try keeping me away. Actually apart from making the cupcakes I thing we virtually did everything ourselves. I also had an extremely relaxing morning on my wedding day and really enjoyed seeing everything coming together.

One key factor to our success was that we didn’t get married until 5.00, late in the afternoon. Well I had all the flowers to do, don’t forget! (The majority were done the night before). Remember to plan how long everything is going to take you to finish on the day and if needs be ask for help.

To me, diy wedding decorations reflect the couple’s personality and their desire to put their own personal mark on the day. But it’s not for everyone and if you don’t feel confident or inclined then don’t worry about it. You need to have a desire to do this if you’re going to enjoy it.
