Making your own floral wedding decorations can be a rewarding and money saving project. However don’t take on more that you can cope with. There is nothing to say that you can’t make your own simple centerpieces if you’re are a beginner to flowers, then have a professional florist supply your bouquets.
Always Practice Beforehand
With any diy wedding project I always recommend that you try out the project well in advance, work out how long it takes you then add a few extra minutes for something not going to plan. This way you will enjoy making your own floral decorations and not get stressed.
Preparation and Planning
I particularly like diy floral projects like this one where the flowers are placed in plenty of fresh water as this allows you to make them the day before. Always store your prepared flowers in a cool place away from direct sunlight.
As I’m a trained professional florist you can probably understand why I wanted to produce my own wedding flowers. One key factor to me being able to do this was that my venue kindly let me set up the day before. I also didn’t get married until 5.00pm in the afternoon as I always wanted an evening wedding (5.00 is the latest time you are allowed to be married in the U.K). These factors meant that I had a really enjoyable time making my floral wedding decorations without getting stressed or short on time.
Let’s Get Started
Here is a really simple floral project that anyone especially a beginner can get great results with. It will work with all kinds of different flowers, I just really wanted to work with this sunny yellow mimosa flower. It will also work for all shapes and sizes of vases or containers like galvanised buckets, enamel jugs etc.
You could use these small vases grouped together on a round table to create an interesting centerpiece. They would work equally well running down the center of long tables without taking up too much room.
