Wedding Car Decoration Ideas

car decorated for a weddingTraditionally, wedding car decoration was left up to someone in the wedding party…usually, the best man. As you can imagine, this often resulted in some pretty interesting wedding cars! Nowadays, brides and grooms are taking more of an interest in their wedding car decoration, and want to have more control over how it looks, and what gets written on it.

Here are some standard items you will need for wedding car decoration…and what you can do with them!

Liquid Chalk

Liquid chalk can be found at most craft stores. It is washable, and can be used on car windows. If you can’t find liquid chalk, look for window markers. Use it to write messages on the windows…but don’t obscure the view for the driver! You can write a standard ‘Just Married‘, but why not have a little fun with it? A line from a favorite love poem or song, your names in a heart with an arrow through it, really anything goes. If your writing is terrible, use letter stencils.

Magnets

You can use these instead or liquid chalk if you want, or along with it. Get big ‘Just Married’ magnets, or hearts, and stick them to the doors of your car. You can have these personalized with your names if you like.

Ribbon

Ahh, such fun to be had with ribbon! Use a good, sturdy ribbon, something that will hold its shape. Wired ribbon makes a good choice for the car. Use it to decorate the antenna, to tie silk flowers to the car, and of course to decorate the interior…bows around the headrests, a bow on the steering wheel, and so forth.

Flowers

Use artificial flowers and make corsages for the door handles. Create a pillar of flowers around the antenna, with a big colorful flower right on top. Stick a flower right in the center of your hubcaps. Hang flowers from your rear-view mirror.

Your florist can also make you a spray of fresh flowers to go on the bonnet or roof. They are made on an oasis cage that has a great big sucker that secures it to the car! This device means that you can use any type of flower and create a really individual creation.

The Rear Bumper

Yes, beer cans are the traditional rear bumper wedding car decoration! But you don’t have to go there if you don’t want to. Instead, attach a bunch of balloons with a few bells to make some noise. Or, tie long strings of artificial flowers to the bumper with wired ribbon.

If you are renting a car, check with the rental company to see what wedding car decorations they allow…and ask if they have any that you can use. Many car companies do, and that can save you some time and money later!
